MEET DR. SWING

Dr. Timothy Swing, a native North Carolinian, has been a practicing dentist in his home state since 2008.  Dr. Swing graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a minor in Spanish. After graduation, he spent a year as a laboratory technician for the UNC Dental Research Center, where he studied the connection between dental diseases and health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. After his time at the research center, Dr. Swing enrolled at Tufts University Dental School in Boston where he went on to graduate summa cum laude with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree. He interned in Bath, NY at a veteran's hospital where he worked and lived with his patients. It was here where he saw first hand how caring for a person's dental needs could improve their quality of life as a whole.

While in Boston, Dr. Swing met his wife, Trista, and they were married in 2007. After graduation Dr. Swing was excited to return to the North Carolina coast, as it was where he spent all of his family vacations growing up. He and his wife are active members of their church, and Dr. Swing enjoys the benefits of coastal living from kayaking and fishing, to attempts at surfing. 
 
He has volunteered with local mobile dental units and free public oral cancer screenings, and is excited to be a part of the Brush Dental team and their community outreach opportunities.

Jennifer is a dental hygienist at Coastal Dental Care.  She has worked with Dr. Smith for the last 7 years.  She first attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College and studied Therapeutic Horseback Riding, a type of physical therapy for people with physical and mental handicaps using horses. She graduated hygiene school from Cape Fear Community College.  She is originally from Western Pennsylvania and has lived in Wilmington for 11 years.  She recently moved to Pender County with her 2 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats.  On weekend, Jennifer enjoys showing in local hunter/jumper competitions. 

Lesley Thomas is a certified dental assistant that graduated from Cape Fear Community College in 2005.  She graduated with honors and received the patient care award for her class.  She has been working at Coastal Dental Care since 2007.  Before moving to Wilmington, she lived in Burgaw where she worked as a dental assistant for her father and has had a lifelong passion for dentistry.  Lesley also has been dancing since the age of three.  She has been in many dance competitions where she has won numerous awards.  In 2007, she was the head choreographer for the semi-pro basketball team, the Wilmington Sea Dawgs.  Lesley has traveled all over the US performing and taking classes from professional dance instructors. 

Robyn and Mikki work in our front office.  They have been employees of Coastal Dental Care for eleven and nine years.  Both have varied vocational backgrounds.  Robyn has her LPN from Bowman Grey Univeristy and has worked in other medical facilities as well as organizing a national consulting company.  Mikki has a BS in Health and Physical Education from George Mason University and has also been employed in management positions prior to working at Coastal Dental Care.  Robyn and Mikki have been involved in several community activities.  They and their families are long time residents of the area.
